The Backyard Garden is Growing Good

Raised Garden BoxIt has been a while since we have updated on the backyard garden. In fact the last time we updated there really wasn’t anything in the garden. Since our last post we had broccoli that went through a growth spurt in the raised bed but we had to pull it out because it became infested with bugs. We also pulled some cabbage plants and a Japanese eggplant that were pretty bad as well.

To replace the plants we pulled we planted habanero and anaheim peppers and cucumbers. They have been all pretty slow to grow up until the last couple weeks. It seems like our garden will go from doing nothing for weeks at a time to just huge amounts of growth over night. Everything in the raised bed now seems like it is doing good and should be producing in the next month or so.

The area that we dug out right off our patio has been just growing like crazy over the last couple of weeks. This area never had any problems with bugs and has been doing pretty well overall. I think for a while we were overwatering everything and since we have cut back we have really noticed a change in growth. There is some work to be done in this area, the tomatoes are getting out of control and really need to be caged so they don’t overtake our corn plants.Backyard Garden

So now the inventory of plants include Cucumber, Lettuce, Habanero Pepper, Jalapeno Pepper, Anaheim Pepper, Green Bell Pepper, Eggplant, Onion, Corn, Tomato, Watermelon, and Honeydew. Hopefully we will be eating some of it very soon. We are also looking forward to harvesting some to take with us when we head out On Our Own.
